The JACoW Collaboration - Creator of the Accelerator Community's Open Archive

From the early ideas conceived at the beginning of the electronic publication era JACoW has grown to become a global collaboration serving the international accelerator community. This talk will describe the development of the collaboration from its birth (which has strong ties to BNL) and explain who and what it is today. JACoW provides much more than the website with its specialised search engine through event organisation tools (SPMS), automated proceedings production and support for conference organisers – these features will be presented. Proceedings production and the reasons for the technical requirements for preparation JACoW papers will be explained, illustrated by a number of examples. The talk will conclude with a brief look to the future in terms of development of the collaboration and its services and the question of long term archival.

JACoW, the Website, the Collaboration, the Future

The Collaboration is made up of 16 accelerator conference series. Policy is decided by its Steering Committee, composed of the past, current and future SPC Chairs in each series, and everyday electronic publishing issues are decided by its Team, made up of the past, current and future editors in each series, or persons responsible for publication of the proceedings. Coordinating the activities are currently a Chair, a Deputy Chair and a Secretary. JACoW is based on good will. And that was enough when the Collaboration was smaller. Now that JACoW reaches maturity, it is time to review the situation, the Collaboration, how it functions, and its sustainability in the longer term.
