AB - The desorption processes caused by beam loss due to charge exchange interactions with residual gas has become an essential intensity limitation for high intensity heavy-ion accelerators. The collimation system made of low out-gassing rate material is designed to control the ion-beam loss induced desorption to enhance the beam intensity worldwide. Therefore the study and dedicated measurements of desorption rate became the key technology of the collimation system design in high intensity heavy-ion accelerators. The ion-beam loss induced desorption processes and their infestation were introduced in this paper firstly. Then the significance on desorption measurement was explained and the experimental setup of desorption measurement at CSRm was focused on. Furthermore, the desorption rate of copper coated with gold bombarded by tin beam was computed. The desorption measurements in subsequent steps at CSRm were given and the acquired data along with theoretical supports to the research on the collimation system in heavy-ion accelerators in future were also illustrated at the end of this paper.
