A serious problem for high current accelerators is the high density of the beam, which is able to destroy equipment or to quench super conductive magnets. About 6000 BLM detectors, mainly ionization chambers, have been produced as result of a successful collaboration between CERN and the Institute for High Energy Physics in Protvino, Russia. CERN mainly developed the IC and SEM. IHEP developed the LIC and FIC. Protvino then manufactured during the past decades the detectors, using industry-produced components. There are four different families of beam loss monitors, produced by the CERN-IHEP collaboration and used at CERN, in ESS, GSI, CEBAF-Virginia, BNL, CEA-Saclay, IHEP-Protvino: LHC type ionization chamber (more than 5000); Secondary Emission Monitor (more than 300); Little ionization chamber (more than 300); Flat Ionization Chamber (more than 50).
