AB - At present, interest is growing in the use of an electron beam irradiation for preserving food, which is a more efficient technology than gamma irradiation. This technology has long been applied to the disinfection of dry products having a low density. When processing objects having a density comparable to that of water, an inhomogeneous radiation dose profile may arise due to the insufficient penetrating power of the electron beam. This makes difficult to conduct correct studies. In IPCE RAS the research on the irradiation of food products and test tubes with model media on a radiation installation based on the UELV-10-10-C-70 accelerator with electron energy of 6-10 MeV is carried out. The sizes of irradiated objects often do not allow making an unambiguous conclusion about the uniformity of radiation doses in experiments. In order to find the distribution profile of doses in the objects of the study, the irradiation process is modeled using a specially modified computer code "BEAM SCANNING". In this program, the object is specified as the combination of primitive forms - a cone, a cylinder, a rectangle and a sphere, which is enough for modeling typical forms of objects, used in experiments. Calculations for cylinders and spheres simulating experimental objects-test tubes with model media and spherical products have been performed. The distributions of radiation doses in this objects are presented, methods for increasing the dose homogeneity in experiments are proposed.
