In addition to suggesting mechanical improvements to SmarAct to improve ruggedness and reliability, PSI has developed a brand-new and flexible control system for better customization, reliability and control. Calibration routines were implemented to reduce systemic errors, and the system has been tailored for practical beamline usage. SmarGon is a six degree-of-freedom positioning device, allowing positioning of a sample and orientation around any given point, with <5um sphere of confusion diameter. It was purpose-built for protein-crystallography experiments but, as will be presented here, was also re-purposed for other applications. Two devices have been in continuous 24/7 use for two years at the MX Beamlines PXI & PXII at SLS.
