The SMPW will support the hard X-ray source for the X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) beamline in SLRI. The design concept of the SMPW follows from, and improves on, the operating experience of the superconducting magnet in NSRRC. An improvement of the operation and compatible with the cooling capacity of the cryogenic system, is the design goal. A quick and easy recovery of the magnet from a quench event is also required. The design of the magnet circuit and the mechanical of the SMPW are also discussed herein.
