Lengthening injector laser pulse can improve the injector emittance but the injector peak current is notably compromised, in comparison to nominal laser pulse. With this longer laser pulse, a stronger bunch compression through downstream bunch compressors is thus required to keep same final peak current as the nominal laser pulse mode. This process may cause stronger micro-bunching effect. At the LCLS, we perform preliminary experiments with doubling injector laser pulse. In this paper, we present the experimental results of the injector emittance, microbunching effects and FEL performance with the longer drive laser pulse.
