In this paper, we present a technique to manipulate the longitudinal phase space distribution to achieve an arbitrary, desired current pulse shape. We show how sextupole magnets (and in certain circumstances, octupole magnets), placed within a dispersive region can be used to generate the conditions required for a flexible technique of current pulse shaping that avoids truncation through collimation.
