AB - With the introduction of top-up operation at the ESRF it becomes important to reduce as much as possible any kind of perturbation seen by the users during injection. For this purpose, a novel technique to improve injection efficiency by shaping the horizontal beam phase space to better match the storage ring acceptance and hence reduce the duration of injections was developed. Theoretical concept, simulations and first experimental results are presented.
