AB - Current horns are ubiquitous in Free Electron Laser (FEL) bunch compression. In this paper, we analyse the formation of these current spikes and identify the cause as caustic formation in the electron trajectories. We also present a possible solution to avoid or mitigate the current horns from developing through using optical linearization.
