An upgrade for additional beam lines has been carried out, and the recommissioning of the new beam lines is starting in spring 2015. In order to fully exploit the potential of the existing magnet lattice of the PETRA III ring, we present a study of beam optics modifications enabling the reduction of the horizontal emittance without changes of the lattice.
