The first year's experience of operating such a novel insertion device at the APS is summarized in this paper. The performance of the SCU0 as a photon source is presented. The measured heat load from the electron beam is described together with the observed cryogenic behavior of the device. The effect of the SCU0 on the APS electron beam is also presented.
