This presentation should provide an overview of LIGO, the Laser Interferometer Gravity-Wave Observatory and the search for gravitational waves that can warp the space-time fabric. Concepts of the interferometer principle, physical dimensions of the project and sensitivities of the instrument to phenomena such as ultra-dense binary neutron star systems should be covered and related to the expected outcome of the observations. The LIGO seminar is of general interest to scientists and engineers and should provide an informative introduction to conference delegates attending the LIGO tour.
