  We pre­sent re­cent de­vel­op­ments in the ac­cel­er­a­tor de­sign of CLARA (Com­pact Lin­ear Ac­cel­er­a­tor for Re­search and Ap­pli­ca­tions), the pro­posed UK FEL test fa­cil­ity at Dares­bury Lab­o­ra­tory. These com­prise a re­vised front-end to en­sure in­te­gra­tion with the ex­ist­ing VELA line, sim­u­la­tions of a mag­net­i­cally com­pressed ul­tra-short mode and a post-FEL di­ag­nos­tics sec­tion. We also pre­sent first con­sid­er­a­tions on the in­clu­sion of final ac­cel­er­a­tion using X-band struc­tures.
