AB - At the straight section with superconducting cavities, two beams with different energies are passing through same vacuum vessels, and separate measurements of such beams are essential for beam commissioning and tuning in energy recovery linacs. Destructive methods such as “screen monitor with a hole” are utilized in many ERLs in order to measure the recirculated beam; however, the method is not suitable for CW operation with high charge. In the compact ERL at KEK, typical macro-pulse length for beam tuning is 1000 ns. In the two-beam section, difference of arrival time of pre- and post-accelerated beam of 300 ns is long enough to separate two beams. We can measure the beam position by gating the signal from stripline electrode. The overlapped part of the two-beam signals is sensitive to the phase of two beams, and they can be utilized for path-length adjustment of the beam. The experimental results during the macro-pulse and CW operation will be presented in this paper.
