Layout, Optics and Beam Dynamics for the LHeC ERL
|
||
The linac-ring version of the Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) based on the LHC achieves the target e-p luminosity of 1033/cm2/s with a total wall-plug power limited to 100 MW by boosting the electron current to about 6 mA using energy recovery. We describe the overall layout of such ERL complex located on the CERN site, the multi-pass linac optics enabling operation of the proposed 3-pass recirculating linear accelerator (RLA) in energy recovery mode, the emittance preserving return arc optics architecture, including layout and optics of the arc switchyard, the design of the 3-beam interaction region, and some important collective effects such as multi-pass beam breakup instability and ion accumulation in the ERL.
