The Helmholtz-Zentrum für Materialien und Energie GmbH proposed to build a compact superconducting Energy Recovery Linac intended as a technology demonstrator in 2008. The project was approved in late 2010. Following a financially motivated 'design to cost' decision in May 2011 the necessary hardware changes have been incorporated into the design during the last months. The maximal energy has been lowered to 50MeV resulting in a shortening of the accelerating structures. A maximal current of 100mA with a normalized emittance of 1 mm mrad still remains the scientific goal of the project. The updated layout of the machine, features for bunch compression and for BBU suppression will be presented. Special emphasis is laid on the impact of a short pulse option on the optics.
