Help on searching the combined conference facility
General
The search procedure returns a list of papers satisfying the criteria which have been selected. The contents of the hidden fields (Author, Title and Keywords) as well as the words of the text have been placed in an index used by the FAST Search engine (introduced 19 March 2007). The results are returned in a separate browser window. Clicking on a hyperlink of a title of a paper will open the document in an Acrobat viewer. The combined conference facility form prepares the initial input for the search engine, setting some parameters to point the engine to the appropriate directories. By default the search engine returns an 'OR' of all the input data i.e. it returns papers which satisfy ANY of the criteria. This is why the use of '+' is always recommended. The form will add a '+' to the first parameter which you enter.
Essentials
  1. Use mixed case to force case-sensitivity
  2. Enclose strings containing blanks in quotes " or brackets ()
  3. '+' ensures that only references containing this parameter will be returned
  4. '-' eliminates references containing this parameter
Examples
To Search on Author Names
Enter the name of an author, using the '+' to eliminate all other authors. The following example will retrieve all papers where the author's name is Poole.
In order to eliminate D.E. Poole from the list of papers found by the engine, use the following:

Note the use of quotes to include the blank. This concept can be used for phrases in any of the fields and the quotes may be optionally replaced by brackets i.e. (D.E. Poole) is equivalent.
To Search in the Titles
If you can remember parts of a title you can combine them with several '+'s but remember that common words like 'and', 'the' and 'of' are not indexed.
To Search in the Keywords
Keywords should be drawn from the common EPAC/PAC list of suggestions and can be very useful to home in on papers of interest.

Note that the hyphen is distinguished from minus in front of the keywords.
To Search in the Text
If all else fails, you can search in the text of all of the papers for words and phrases which you can enter in the final box e.g.
